There is a greater focus than ever before on resilience and wellbeing in schools. Resilience and character education are increasingly a distinct part of the curriculum.

Teachers' workload and wellbeing are hot topics and part of the government's recruitment and retention strategy. Meanwhile, headteachers are often so focused on ensuring the resilience and wellbeing of others that they neglect to look after their own.

Julia Steward draws on research findings and on her work as a leadership development coach and facilitator. Reflections on her own experience as a leader illustrate how unconscious habits of thinking and behaviour can hijack our leadership development in any profession. Practical exercises address the question: what can I do about this if it applies to me? Karen McMillan's fine line-drawings provide a visual summary of key messages.

If you are, or have ever supported, a leader who has acknowledged their own vulnerability, this book is for you.
